PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a breaking device of a shield machine capable of releasing or preventing the closing of a soil discharge pipe without performing very complicated operations including the overhauling of the soil discharge pipe and the removing operation of excavated matters by normally securing a predetermined soil discharging capacity for discharging the excavated soil from the soil discharge pipe and when the excavated matters in lump shape are taken into an intake space at the front of a soil discharge port or the soil discharge pipe is closed, by crushing the excavated matters or moving and removing them. SOLUTION: The soil discharge port 80a at the front end of the soil discharge pipe 80 is positioned at the rear of a partition wall 7. In a cylindrical member 91, the intake space recessed rearward from the partition wall 7 is so formed that the soil discharge port 80a is allowed to communicate with a chamber 6. Two pairs of hydraulic jacks 95 are so mounted on the cylindrical member 90 as to face each other so that the excavated matters in lump shape in the intake space 90 can be crushed by the rods 95b of the hydraulic jacks 95.
