PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing methylcyclopentenones, which method can derivatively synthesize a jasmonic acid ester which is especially useful with a large demand among jasmine-derived perfumes. SOLUTION: The production method of methylcyclopentenones is characterized by the decarbonation of a compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a hydrogen atom or a 1-8C substituent).
