Method for controlling the coolant mass stream of an axial piston compressor comprises guiding a pivoting disk in equilibrium between a torque produced by rotating masses and a torque produced by translating masses and keeping constant the product of the compressor rotation, a suction gas density and piston lift for different revolutions whilst a pressure prevailing in the propellant chamber is kept constant. An independent claim is also included for an axial piston compressor. Preferred Features: The equilibrium between the torques is produced for an ejection angle.
