An upward discharge type outdoor unit of an air conditioner is provided to prevent direct discharge of heat to a person around the outdoor unit by discharging the heat to an upper side using a sirocco fan and a scroll housing, thereby suppressing a performance deterioration of the air conditioner without causing noise. An upward discharge type outdoor unit of an air conditioner comprises a case(10), a condenser, a scroll housing(170), a sirocco fan(190), an outdoor unit discharge port(210), an opening and closing unit, and a drain hole(240). The case has a predetermined space to embed a plurality of components therein. The condenser is mounted on a side of the case inside and performs heat exchange with high temperature and high pressure refrigerant discharged from a compressor(130). The scroll housing includes a suction port(150) configured on an opposite side of the condenser and a discharge port(160) configured towards an upper side of the outdoor unit. The sirocco fan is mounted inside the scroll housing, and driven by a motor. The outdoor unit discharge port is contoured on the upper side of the outdoor unit, so as to discharge the air from the discharge port of the scroll housing to the outside. The opening and closing unit opens and closes the outdoor unit discharge port, comprising an auto shutter(220) sliding for opening and closing the outdoor unit discharge port, and a mesh member(230) preventing foreign matters from entering in the outdoor unit discharge port. The drain hole is contoured on a lower side of the scroll housing to drain rain water.
