CONTROL METHOD FOR POINTER OF MOBILE TERMINAL HAVING POINTING DEVICE

A pointer control method of a portable terminal having a pointing device is provided to distinguish a pointer mode where a pointer is activated from a search key mode where the pointer is inactivated, thereby removing inconvenience of a user through duplicating the pointer and the focus. Movement through a pointing device is sensed(210). It is decided whether the sensed movement satisfies a mode conversion condition(220,240). If so, the current mode is converted into a pointer mode to display a pointer(250). It is confirmed whether a particular key is inputted(260). If so, the current mode is converted into a search key mode to hide the pointer(270).
