PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolation construction method for an existing building, which is high in construction safety, and achieves reduction of construction costs. SOLUTION: The base isolation construction method for the existing building is implemented by switching a column bearing load from an objective column 1 to a temporary support member 2, setting a base isolation device 3 in the cut objective column, thereafter switching the column bearing load from the temporary support member to the base isolation device, and finally removing the temporary support member. According to the method, a single or a suitable number of the objective columns out of the entire objective columns are subjected to the above-mentioned sequential steps until completion of the method. Herein, after switching the column bearing load from the temporary support member to the base isolation device, a step of mounting a column horizontal displacement restriction means 4 is carried out for inhibiting the base isolation device from functioning. Further, during a time period before the time the column bearing load is switched from the temporary support member to the base isolation device and after the time the column horizontal displacement restriction means is mounted, a temporary horizontal force support means 5 is set.
