The circuit (1) has a breakdown diode (9) and a capacitor (7) connected in series between an electrode and a gate electrode of a transistor (5) e.g. Insulated-gate bipolar transistor, where the electrode is a drain or collector. A connection between the electrode, and another electrode is partially changed between a conducting and non-conducting condition. A breakdown diode is provided with an anode semiconductor region, and cathode semiconductor region, and control circuit controls the transistor.
