<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly update road map data and positioning information such as own vehicle location fitted to characteristics and a level of support control to be executed so that the support control is properly executed, in a positioning information update device for vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: An execution condition of map matching for correcting the location of the own vehicle is set (step 122), on the basis of positioning precision of the own vehicle location required in properly executing the support control to be executed according to the location of the own vehicle. Specifically, it is set so that, as the positioning precision required is high and its error is small, execution frequency of the map matching is increased.
