<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the detecting performance to find a contour in the specified region of the input image. <P>SOLUTION: The feature quantity of each pixel is mechanically and previously studied in a plurality of sample images including the specified region where the contour is known, and then evaluation function F is measured from the feature quantity for evaluating whether each pixel shows the contour or not. A point C is given in the specified region of the input image, and the discrimination region TT including the specified region is arranged in the input image by using the point C as a standard, and the feature quantity L of each pixel is determined in the arranged discrimination region. The evaluation value S that determines whether each pixel in the discrimination region shows the contour or not is calculated from the determined feature quantity L by using the evaluation function F, and the optimal contour B is determined from the calculated evaluation value S. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
