PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a solid-state image sensing device capable of reducing smear charges leaked from the photodiode side to a vertical CCD during a horizontal-transfer period. SOLUTION: Only a voltage pulseϕV4 corresponding to a transfer electrode 8 having the shortest length in the vertical direction in a region with the end face of a photodiode projected therein is set at a medium voltage VM for the horizontal transfer period (a period T1). The voltage pulsesϕV1 toϕV3 corresponding to other transfer electrodes 5 to 7 are also set at a low voltage VL for the horizontal transfer period, thus holding signal charges only in a channel region under the transfer electrode 8.
