PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a periodic magnetic field generator having a wide flexibility in design, having arbitrary generating magnetic field strength and waveform, and to provide a motor that uses it. SOLUTION: The periodic magnetic field generator has a field pole of Halbach magnet arrangement structure, comprising a main magnetic pole consisting of a permanent magnet magnetized in the direction of generating magnetic field, and a sub-magnetic pole, consisting of a permanent magnet arranged in the vicinity thereof, wherein the main magnetic pole is arranged on the magnetic field generating side and the sub-magnetic pole is arranged at a position apart from the magnetic field generating side of the main magnetic pole.
