PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for solubilizing Oplophorus gracilorostris luciferase 19kDa protein expressed in Escherichia coli with its luminescent activity kept intact. SOLUTION: The method for solubilizing the 19kDa protein comprises the following process: An encapsulated form obtained by expressing the 19kDa protein in Escherichia coli is suspended in a 2M urea-containing buffer solution without using guanidine, and after subjecting the resultant suspension to centrifugal precipitation, the resultant insoluble precipitate is suspended in a 6M urea-containing buffer solution.
