Method for recognizing accident-critical situations comprises determining an area (SO) traveled by a vehicle (F), determining a virtual track (Sv) lying in the traveled area based on an actual number of virtual support points (P1, P2, P3) each representing a future stopping point of the vehicle, calculating an acceleration at which the vehicle must accelerate along the track to avoid a collision with objects (O1, O2), determining the criticality of the situation along the virtual track, optimizing the track by varying the position of at least one support point to minimize the criticality and evaluating the situation as accident-critical when the criticality exceeds a prescribed threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a system for avoiding a collision. Preferred Features: The virtual track has the same tangential direction as the traveled area and a slight curved course between the support points.
|
