<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine and deploy only a pedestrian airbag required for pedestrian protection at secondary collision of a vehicle with the pedestrian. <P>SOLUTION: When a specified pedestrian in which it is determined that collision possibility with an own vehicle is a threshold value or higher is detected, an image part corresponding to the specified pedestrian from an image obtained by an imaging device is extracted, and it is monitored whether or not body part of the specified pedestrian enters a space above a hood panel (secondary collision with the own vehicle is predicted) (78-84). When the secondary collision is predicted, an image part corresponding to the specified pedestrian from the image taken-in from the imaging device is extracted, and determination and memorizing of a position of a head part are repeated at predetermined times (86-92). Movement direction or the like of the head part of the specified pedestrian is determined, the secondary collision position of the head part of the specified pedestrian is predicted, and the airbag for the pedestrian deployed to a range including the predicted secondary collision position of the plurality of airbags for the pedestrian deployed to ranges different from each other is determined as a deployment object (94-100). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
