<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an atomic gyroscope of a chip scale, and a method for detecting and measuring mechanical rotation of an object. <P>SOLUTION: This atomic gyroscope of the chip scale includes a vapor cell including a vapor cavity fitted to include vaporized sources of alkali metal atoms and rare gas atoms, a pump/laser source for generating the first laser beam along an optical pumping axis for performing optical pumping of alkali metal atoms in the vapor cavity into an excitation state, and a detection laser source for generating the second laser beam along a detection axis crossing the optical pumping axis in order to examine a polarization angle of rare gas atoms in the vapor cavity. The pump/laser source and the detection laser source can be connected respectively to a servo mechanism, and the servo mechanism is constituted so that the laser beam is maintained with a conveyance wavelength of the alkali metal atoms and a wavelength equivalent to a wavelength detuned from the conveyance wavelength. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
