PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology which allows a further measure for saving more energy to be taken in a float bath. SOLUTION: This float bath is equipped with a cover member 30 covering the upper surface of a glass ribbon 39, and the cover member 30 is composed of a plate material 31 disposed in parallel with the glass ribbon 39 and a skirt 32 hung down from the periphery of the plate material 31. Accordingly, as the cover member includes a skirt, a protective gas is sealed in a space formed with the plate material and the skirt. As a result, convection is markedly restricted so that lowering of the glass ribbon temperature due to convection can be suppressed. Also, as the radiation heat radiated from the high temperature glass ribbon is blocked by the plate material of the cover member, radiant quantities are minimized.
