PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for tread capable of improving the on-snow/ice performance and steering stability of a studless tire and maintaining the high durability of the studless tire, and to provide such a studless tire using the rubber composition. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for tread comprises paper sludge coal, wherein the paper sludge coal is compounded preferably at 1-20 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the rubber component.
