A method and an apparatus for calibrating a color printer are provided to maintain the reproduction characteristic of a color reprographic device by creating halftones for the color printer. A storage module(17) stores a set of color signals of a calibration target, which are independent from a device. A scanner(10) scans the copy of a printed image of the calibration target to create a scanned image. A calibration module(20) compares colors of the scanned image with the color signals of the calibration target, creates at least tone response correction function based on the comparison result, and creates at least one halftones for a printer based on the tone response correction function.
