PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treating method for surely making asbestos sprayed on the surface of a basic material harmless by low energy by treating the asbestos before separating it off its surface and separating it off after taking measures for preventing scattering of the asbestos. SOLUTION: This method for treating an existing layer of asbestos sprayed on the surface of the basic material of a building comprises a step for impregnating connecting sealer containing asbestos melting agent being a calcium compound into the layer of asbestos, a step for solidifying the connecting sealer, and a step for heating the layer of asbestos after that.
