PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrofining method with which when an oil to be treated comprising an oxygen-containing hydrocarbon compound and a sulfur-containing hydrocarbon compound is used, a hydrofined oil having sufficiently reduced both oxygen and sulfur contents is obtained. SOLUTION: The hydrofining method comprises bringing an oil to be treated, consisting of an oxygen-containing hydrocarbon compound and a sulfur-containing hydrocarbon compound into contact with a catalyst composed of a porous inorganic oxide consisting of two or more kinds of elements selected from aluminum, silicon, zirconium, boron, titanium and magnesium and one or more kinds of metals selected from elements of the group 6A and the group 8 of the periodic table supported on the porous inorganic oxide in the presence of hydrogen under conditions of a hydrogen pressure of 2-13MPa, a liquid space velocity of 0.1-3.0h<SP>-1</SP>, a hydrogen oil ratio of 150-1,500NL/L and a reaction temperature of 180-380°C.
