This invention provides a method for evaluating the performance of an electrode catalyst for a fuel battery, comprising a catalyst metal supported on an electroconductive carrier. In the evaluation method, the value of voltammogram area/catalyst specific surface area in the electrode catalyst is used as an index for performance evaluation, and, when the value of voltammogram area/catalyst specific surface area is not less than 1.0OE0<SUP>-4</SUP>(mV A g/m<SUP>2</SUP>), the performance is evaluated as good. According to this constitution, the performance of the electrode catalyst for a fuel battery can be properly evaluated. There are also provided a method for exploring an electrode catalyst for a fuel battery, having an excellent performance, and a novel electrode catalyst for a fuel battery, having an excellent catalytic activity, explored by the above method. |
