<p>The invention concerns a supporting structure for motor vehicle instrument panel, the structure (10) comprising: a transverse cross member (12), including at least two right and left transverse sections (18, 20) separate form each other; and means (28) for mutually fixing the right and left sections (18, 20), the right and left sections (18, 20) comprising respective ends (22, 24) defining between them a passage (26) for receiving the steering column (16) of the vehicle in such a position that at least part of the steering column (16) is located between the ends (22, 24) opposite the right and left sections (18, 20). The means (28) for mutually fixing the right and left sections (18, 20) comprise a box (30) including at least right, left and upper walls (32, 34, 36) delimiting between them the passage (28) for the steering column (16), the mutually opposite right and left walls (32, 34) other being rigidly fixed to the ends (22, 24) facing the right and left sections (18, 20) and being independent of the steering column (16), the upper wall (36) being connected to the right and left walls (32, 34) for supporting the steering column (16).</p> |
