A switched reluctance motor is provided to control an operation of a rotor by precisely detecting a position or a speed of the rotor of the switched reluctance motor. A switched reluctance motor includes a field coil(111), a stator(110), a rotor(120), a detecting plate(130), a position detecting sensor. The field coil is wound around the stator. The rotor rotates by an electromagnetic force generated between the stator and the rotor. The detecting plate is coupled to the rotor to be rotated with the rotor, has a plurality of detecting units, and consists of a conductor. The plurality of detecting units are arranged at regular intervals around the detecting plate. The position detecting sensor is fixed to one side of the detecting plate having a gap from the detecting plate and detects the detecting units of the detecting plate for detecting a position of the rotor.
