The moving arm 1 of a contact-breaker for internal combustion engine ignition has an L-shaped cam follower 5 secured thereto in cantilever fashion in order to provide limited resilient movement between follower and arm and thereby reduce the noise of operation. In a first embodiment the follower 5 is secured to the arm 1 by a rivet which also holds the return spring 4, a small plate 6 being interposed as shown such that the nose of the follower 5 is spaced from the arm 1. The follower 5 is a block of resin impregnated cloth and its inherent resiliency allows a cantilever action. Alternatively, the plate 6 may be omitted and the arm 1 shaped to provide the required space behind the follower 5 (Fig. 3, not shown). In a further modification an extension of the return spring 4 beyond the fixing rivet carries the cam-follower 5 (Fig. 4, not shown), and provides the cantilever resiliency.
