The console has a support (12) integrated to a tunnel (11), and a console case (14) defining an inner space (24) for storing objects. The case is mounted movably on the support between forward and reversed positions. A guiding unit (16) guides the displacement of the case and includes an outer rail (40) with an outer surface (50) fixed on the support. The surface is placed in the space swept by the case during its displacement between the positions. The case defines side openings (30) for the passage of a tool, where the openings open relative to the surface in a case mounting position. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a console.
