The present invention refers to an improved catalytic process for producing hydrogen or converting methane, under moderate-operating conditions, particularly regarding the pressure and temperature applied in a reaction from Ni/ZnAl2O4 catalysts. The steam methane reforming (SMR) process performed at a temperature of 1346-1547 K and pressure of 30-60 atm using a Ni/supported catalyst is the most used and generally cost effective process. In case the SMR is performed in the presence of a CO2 adsorber, the temperature of the reaction is reduced down to 300-500 K, while the methane conversion is still the same, having a higher H2 purity. The aforesaid process is best known as Sorption-enhanced reaction (SER).
