<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the technique for preventing unauthorized access while balancing the load between a printer and a server. <P>SOLUTION: A digital multifunction machine 11 utilizes protocols such as IPP or SMB to receive a print instruction via a network. The digital multifunction machine 11 performs a print request from the same segment (LAN 10) and print requests from segments registered in segment registration data. When a print request is generated from a segment different and not registered, authentication processing is performed.
