PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display and a method of fabricating the device for improving the display quality and the aperture ratio. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes: a gate line and a data line crossing each other to define a pixel region on a substrate; a gate electrode connected to the gate line; a gate insulating layer on the gate electrode; an active layer on the gate insulating layer; a source electrode and the drain electrode on the active layer and spaced apart from each other; ohmic contact layers between the active layer and the source electrode and between the active layer and the drain electrode; a shielding pattern over the active layer and having two sides, facing the inner sides of the source electrode and of the drain electrode, at least one of the two sides located in between the inner sides of the source electrode and the drain electrode; and a pixel electrode in the pixel region and connected to the drain electrode.
