PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To employ a sweeping method considering the relation between a receipt azimuth and a receipt time to a receipt signal at a position different from a transmission point. SOLUTION: The method comprises first means 24, 25, 11, 21 for controlling timing for transmitting transmission schedule time information as inputs; a second means 13 for transmitting pulses in water by the transmission timing controlled; a third means 23 located at a position different from that of the second means, for receiving a sound signal transmitted from the second means; and fourth means 22, 24, 25, 26, 11, 21 for sweeping and displaying images based on the sound signal on the orthogonal coordinates that an azimuth and a distance from viewpoint of the receipt point of the sound signal. With the above configuration, the movement of an object can be grasped intuitionally when reflection pulses from the object are complemented and tracked by a plurality of searching signals under the condition where the position displayed by receiving the reflection pulses from the object can be grasped intuitionally and there is the movement of the object.
