PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automobile engine providing a substantial shortening effect of the engine total length, particularly when taking into consideration vehicle mounting performance. SOLUTION: This automobile engine has an intermediate shaft 24 arranged in parallel to a crankshaft 13 between the crankshaft 13 and camshafts 20a and 21, an intermediate shaft driving mechanism 25 arranged on one end side of the intermediate shaft 24 and driving the intermediate shaft 24 by the crankshaft 13, an auxiliary machine driving mechanism 28 arranged on the other end side of the intermediate shaft 24 and driving auxiliary machines by the intermediate shaft 24, and a camshaft driving mechanism 27 arranged on the same side as the auxiliary machine driving mechanism 28 and driving the camshafts 20a and 21 by the intermediate shaft 24.
