The method involves providing a temporal target pressure characteristic for a fuel tank (10) and measuring an actual pressure dominant to the fuel tank. The measured actual pressure is compared with a target pressure, and the fuel tank is filled with a gaseous medium based on a difference between the actual pressure and the target pressure of the fuel tank in such that the actual pressure results the temporal target pressure characteristic. A fuel discharge developed on a ventilation system of the tank is measured. An independent claim is also included for a device for simulation-like determination of a fuel discharge in a fuel tank.
