PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel excavation system and a tunnel excavation construction method for driving a transport carrier into a following carrier smoothly while constructing a track by a rear part of the following carrier. SOLUTION: This tunnel excavation system is provided with the following carrier 2 connected with a rear part of a shield machine 1 for excavating a tunnel, running on a tunnel lined member 11, moving in accordance with excavation of the shield machine 1, and allowing the transport carrier 4 to ride in the following carrier 2 while constructing the track 21 for letting the transport carrier 4 run on it, a movable carrier 5 provided in the following carrier 2 so as to move backward from the following carrier 2 on a fixed rail 51 and a movable rail 52 being continuous with the track 21 constructed by the following carrier 2, and a track construction part 3 provided in a rear part of the following carrier 2 to construct a main track 12 for letting the transport carrier 4 run on it on the tunnel lined member 11.
