PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which can realize the regulation of the position and width of a shield region independently of each other. SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with a coater element which is extended to pass transversely across the travel direction and has a surface located so as to come into contact with a web being transferred. A liquid coated on the surface is transferred onto a web being transferred at a point where the web being transferred comes into contact with the surface. A support positioned while providing a space from the coater element in the web travel direction has a plurality of guides, which is extended so as to pass transversely across the web travel direction, on the support. At least a few guides pass transversely across the web travel direction and are superimposed on other guide. Each shield slidable on the guide, which passes transversely across the travel direction, is extended to a part between the web and the surface. Accordingly, in general, there is no transfer of the liquid from the surface to the web being transferred at a place where the shield is extended to a part between the transfer web and the surface. Each regulator connected to the shield displaces the shield in respective guides between a position where the guides are mutually superimposed in at least a part thereof and a position where the guides are located while providing a space therebetween.
