The system has a seat belt (10), a belt retractor (14), a seat belt load limiter (18) and a coupling unit (16), where the coupling unit is connected with the seat belt load limiter by a steel strip (20). The coupling unit couples the seat belt load limiter to the seat belt. The coupling unit is designed in such a manner that the tightening of the seat belt is allowed in spite of the coupled seat belt load limiter.
