LIGHT EMITTING DEVICE HAVING LIGHT EMITTING BAND AND THE METHOD THEREFOR

A light emitting device including a light emitting band is provided to reduce inner light loss caused by internal reflection in a light emitting device by improving light extraction efficiency on an exposed surface of a light emitting device without performing an additional surface treatment on the exposed surface of the light emitting device. A light emitting cell(56) in which a lower semiconductor layer(55), an active layer and an upper semiconductor layer are stacked is formed on a region of a substrate. An electrode is formed in the light emitting cell. At least one light emitting band(60) is formed in another region of the substrate, separated from the light emitting cell. The light emitting band internally receives the light generated from the light emitting cell through the substrate or at least one of the substrate, the lower semiconductor layer or the active layer and radiates the received light to the outside. The light emitting band can be formed on the same substrate as the light emitting cell. The light emitting band is inclined with respect to the upper surface of the substrate wherein the light emitting band is decreased in width as it goes upward.
