<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery having performance corresponding to performance of a motor and a generator. <P>SOLUTION: A lithium ion battery filling Sb/Pm2max>0.09 (square meter/kW) as first requirement as a relation between a total electrode area Sb of the battery and a rated output (maximum output) Pm2max on a power running side of a motor MG 2 and filling Sb/(¾Pm1min+Pm2min¾)>0.04 (square meter/kW) as second requirement as the relation between the total electrode area Sb of the battery and rated output Pm1min of a regeneration side of a motor MG1 and rated output Pm2min of a regeneration side of the motor MG2 is used as the battery 36.
