PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soft handover control method for a mobile apparatus capable of selecting an optimum cell even when a peripheral cell environment is rapidly varied with a simple circuit configuration without using a specific circuit such as a GPS receiver. SOLUTION: The soft handover control method comprises: a step S51 wherein the mobile apparatus reads cell quality (preceding cell quality) of a target cell; a step S52 wherein the mobile apparatus measures cell quality (present cell quality) of a present target cell; a step S53 wherein thereafter the mobile apparatus respectively compares the cell quality of a soft handover target with the preceding cell quality and with the present cell quality obtained in the steps S51, S52 and discriminates the cell with higher quality; a step S54 wherein the mobile apparatus executes soft handover control when discriminating that the execution of the soft handover control is proper on the basis of a result of the discrimination; and a step S55 wherein the mobile apparatus terminates the processing without executing the soft handover control when discriminating that the execution of the soft handover control is improper on the basis of the result of the discrimination.
