PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use the storage resources by virtualizing external storage resources as internal storage resources, and to synchronize the storage contents of a virtualized internal volume and a real internal volume. SOLUTION: A first storage device 1 is provided with an internal volume 6 and a virtual internal volume 7. The entity of the virtual internal volume 6 is an external volume 9 owned by a second storage device 2. The external volume 9 is mapped to the storage hierarchy of the first storage device 1 so that the external volume 9 can be handled as a volume in the first storage device 1. Then, a copy pair is formed of the internal volume 6 and the virtual internal volume 7 so that the contents of both the volumes can be synchronized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
