PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a facility for producing a carbide, for producing the carbide of such high safety as to cause no ignition/fire. SOLUTION: The method for producing the carbide comprises the following process: The original exothermic carbide subjected to water-washing treatment after formed in a carbonizing oven 1 is brought into a detention apparatus 6 located in between a water-washing tank 4 and a reservoir tank 30. In the detention apparatus 6, exothermic reaction of the carbide such as low-temperature oxidation is promoted, and the resulting carbide is charged into the reservoir tank 30. In this process, based on the information on the temperatures in the detention apparatus 6, at the exit of a dryer 4, at the exit of the dryer 4's cyclone 5, at the exit of the detention apparatus 6, and in the reservoir tank 30, and on the oxygen concentration in the detention apparatus 6, either one of the gas feed into the detention apparatus 6, inert gas feed such as nitrogen gas feed, level of heating the carbide, feed of steam to the carbide and level of cooling the carbide, one or two or more of the above parameters is(are) controlled, thus putting the exothermic reaction of the carbide such as low-temperature oxidation under control.
