A plasma reactor has bulk material (3) through which flows the air to be cleaned between at least two electrodes (1) connected to a voltage (4) and in direct contact with the bulk material (3). The bulk material consists at least partly of a dense non-porous and/or hydrophobic porous material, in which the dense non-pours material is provided with a catalytic, photo-catalytic, and/or absorbative layer.
