A method for inquiring of a vehicle license number in a portable terminal is provided to disclose efficiently cars illegally parked, stolen or whose owner fails to pay taxes by using the portable terminal with a camera. A method for inquiring of a vehicle license number in a portable terminal comprises the following several steps. A user sets a moving picture mode in the portable terminal(S1). The user captures a moving picture of a vehicle license number plate by making the portable terminal aim at the plate(S2). The portable terminal continues to input the captured moving picture into a recognition module(S3). The recognition module recognizes the moving picture and extracts number data(S4). The portable terminal compares the extracted number data with data stored at a memory or data managed by a server via communication with the server(S5). The portable terminal selectively stores the recognized vehicle information at the memory(S6). |
