<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a polymer electrolyte film capable of achieving a high level of methanol barrier property and proton conductivity, and to provide the polymer electrolyte film obtained by the manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The manufacturing method [1] for the polymer electrolyte film includes a step of reforming a polymer electrolyte film subjected to base substitution with polyvalent cations by a reforming treatment selected from a heating treatment, an active energy ray irradiation treatment, and a discharge treatment. The manufacturing method [2] may also include an acid treatment that is carried out in accordance with the reforming treatment described in method [1]. In the manufacturing method [3], the reforming treatment of the method [1] may be a heat treatment carried out in a temperature range of 40°C to 200°C. The polymer electrolyte film [4] is obtained by the manufacturing method of the methods [1] to [3].
