PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a plasma display panel, and a plasma display device, wherein afterimage phenomenon itself is reduced, while performing high fidelity image display, and display luminance of each discharge cell is made uniform. SOLUTION: In a driving method of a plasma display panel, provided with a plurality of discharge cells including a pair of display electrodes comprising a scanning electrode and a sustain electrode, one field is constituted of a plurality of subfields having an initializing period for generating initialization discharge with the discharge cell; a writing period for generating writing discharge with the discharge cell; and a sustaining period for generating sustain discharge with the discharge cell in which a sustain pulse is applied on the pair of display electrodes and the writing discharge is generated. In the sustaining period, the sustain discharge is generated, by using a reference sustaining pulse A and a sustain pulse B which has slower initial rise than the reference sustain pulse, and after the sustaining pulse B is generated twice in succession, the sustain pulse A is generated six times in succession.
