The speed measuring device (12) has sensor units (14, 16) for detecting signals from an object environment. The sensor unit (16) is provided with a camera, where the received signals of the sensor units are evaluated in an arithmetic and logic unit (28). The arithmetic and logic unit is provided for controlling a motor vehicle drive (30) and an internal-combustion engine (32) of a motor vehicle (10). An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring speed of a motor vehicle.
