The method involves determining context-related basic data by sensors (1) of a motor vehicle. The basic data are interpreted by a data processing device, so that context data are obtained, where the probability distribution is assigned to the context data. The basic data are read from a memory that is provided in the vehicle. The basic data are transferred from vehicle-external information sources by a communication interface.
