The arrangement has an exhaust gas after treatment device (12) arranged in an exhaust gas line (10) of an internal combustion engine, where the device has a set of exhaust gas after-treatment units (14) in an exhaust gas channel (15). A bypass channel (16) bypasses one of the after-treatment units, and valve devices (18-20) open and close the bypass channel and the exhaust gas channel. A controller (26) controls the valve devices depending on operating conditions of the combustion engine, and the bypass channel is formed integrally with the after-treatment device. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an exhaust gas after-treatment device for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
