A method for mapping data in an intelligent electronic device within a transformer substation is provided to enhance convenience in maintenance and to minimize a management cost by modifying only a mapping file without changing a program of a communication unit when mapping data of the intelligent electronic device needs to be modified, added or deleted. A method for mapping data in an intelligent electronic device within a transformer substation comprises the following several steps. A communication unit of the intelligent electronic device receives a mapping file, related to a logical node attribute of data stored at a shared memory, from a remote monitoring controller, and stores the received mapping file at a file mapper(S11). A mapping processor of the communication unit calls the mapping file connected to the logical node attribute from the file mapper when the remote monitoring controlling requests data mapping(S12,S13). The mapping processor checks a header of the called mapping file and determines that the kind of the header is a shared memory, a string or logical node data(S14). In case of the shared memory in the step S14, the mapping processor searches for the shared memory via an address recorded in the mapping file and determines whether corresponding data is included in the shared memory(S15,S16). If the corresponding data is included, the mapping processor reads the data from the shared memory, stores the read data and a parameter, including a corresponding data address, at the n-th node section matched with a logical node attribute of a logical node data memory, finishes the mapping and analyzes the next mapping file.
