The detector (1) has detector units (2) and an evaluating unit (4) that is arranged in such a manner that energy thresholds are assigned to the corresponding detector units. Two parts of different radiation spectra have energies below and above the energy thresholds, respectively, where the radiation spectra are loadable with the detector units. The thresholds of the different detector units are adjusted such that a relationship between the parts is adjusted with respect to each other. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an x-ray detector of detecting individual quantum.
