ILLUMINATED INFUSION CANNULA

A transparent illuminated infusion cannula is described. The cannula includes
an
endo-illuminator operable to provide light to illuminate an area within an
eye; a hose to
transport a fluid; a protective sheath; an incision cannula to incise the
sclera of the eye and a
transparent cannula surrounding the incision cannula. The transparent cannula
is positioned
coaxially with the endo-illuminator and a space between the distal end of the
endo-illuminator and proximal end of the transparent cannula allows fluid to
flow around the
distal end of the endo-illuminator, into the transparent cannula, and into a
sclera aperture. In
its initial position, the incision cannula is extended to enable an incision
in the sclera to be
made, and is retractable such that the endo-illuminator and the transparent
cannula are in
their correct relative positions to provide the optimal combination of light
transmittance and
fluid flow.
