<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which silicon and silicon carbide are separated and extracted from a spent slurry containing silicon and silicon carbide and both of them are recovered and an apparatus used for the method. <P>SOLUTION: The method for separating silicon carbide and silicon comprises heating a mixture of silicon carbide particles and silicon particles at a first temperature in an inert gas atmosphere in a vessel to melt the silicon particles, holding the melt containing the molten silicon at a second temperature, immersing an extraction implement in the upper part of the melt to deposit the silicon carbide on the implement, recovering the deposited silicon carbide and the refined molten silicon from the vessel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
